In 1998, I had the privilege of meeting Dr. Nancy McEachern, D.V.M.,
the foremost authority on frame overos.
She was getting out of minis at that time, and going into frame overo thoroughbreds registered
with the Jockey club.
She is breeding frame overos in thoroughbred racehorses now and her ranch is
Colorworld Ranch.
I was lucky enough to get to know Nancy and she taught us all about breeding frame overos.
She knows what she is talking about, as she has several loud frame overo
thoroughbreds DOUBLE REGISTERED WITH THE JOCKEY CLUB AND PAINT HORSE ASSOCIATION. These are
thoroughbred racehorses that can race at the Kentucky Derby, Belmont, Preakness, or any thoroughbred racetrack.
We have been breeding exotic birds for over 20 years and during that time, we started breeding
color mutations in them. We found we enjoyed color genetics and breeding frame overo miniature horses
was a natural progression. We started breeding for a specific pinto pattern like frame overos.
We have been fortunate to acquire quite a few of "Oh Cisco" offspring, and the three herd sires we have
are direct sons of "Oh Cisco". We also have a loud frame daughter of "Oh Cisco", granddaughters, and grandsons
plus great granddaughters of this famous black and white frame stallion. We think that
"OH CISCO" was the very best of the frame overos.
In 2003, we were able to take part in a research
study to find a test for the sabino gene at a University of Kentucky, Gluck University. The test for
the sabino gene was found, but the researcher discovered what we had already figured out. There is more
than one sabino gene, there are multiple sabino genes. The sabino gene that was discovered is called SB1, it is also
called sabino white. One of our mares carries this very special gene, and has passed it on to her offspring, as
we had a totally white foal born here in 2005 that also tested positive for the frame overo gene.
Every foal that is born here is tested for the frame gene. We do not use the
terms, "overo bred", we
only use the word overo if the horse has tested positive for the frame overo
gene or is a visual
sabino overo.
We have several videos throughout the website with music. They show "OH CISCO", and some of
the frame horses that "OH CISCO" has sired. The pedigrees show the horses lineage and what pictures
we could find of them. If you have pictures of any of the horses listed in the pedigrees, please e-mail them
to us. We have Bond, Stouts, Bar L'S, Buckeroo, NFC, Roan Ranger, and Gold Melody Boy, and NFC Rowdys Stylish Conclusion
bloodlines, along with Komoko, Flying W Farms, 4 J's Silver Streaker, Mitasunke Huka, Chocolatico, Texans Big Bad John and of course
"OH CISCO".
These horses have some of the finest bloodlines in the miniature horse world, and all of them have been selected to produce
colored pinto horses that would be an asset and a joy for anyone to own. We specialize in true frame overo horses
with good conformation and show quality.
